Holy Snowstorm

We are being POUNDED with snow!
Before Christmas the kids were doing snow dances and begging for snow.
I guess it all worked eventually because now it is getting ridiculous.
On the radio yesterday morning the weather man said the average snowfall in Boston is 46 inches and as of yesterday morning they were already at 51 inches.  I don't know what it has been out here in the sticks, but I do know that we got ANOTHER storm last night.

This is a picture of a ruler, yep you can only see the tip top.
Yep, another foot of snow.  A couple weeks ago we got a storm with 20 inches, last week another 8 and now today about a foot.
 We are buried in it.
You can barely see the Honda underneath it all.  Yesterday it was completely cleaned off and I was driving it.
This is what my BBQ looks like.  I left it out with the cover on hoping to be able to use it.  Probably not, we can't get to it.
This is a view from my kitchen floor onto the patio.
And this lovely picture was the temperature the other morning while I was sitting at seminary.  Yes, it got even colder, we saw -10, but couldn't get the picture to work, I think my camera was very possibly frozen!!!

As of right now my little lovelies won't get out of school until June 22nd.  We have had so many snow days.  Last week with the Martin Luther King holiday, my kids only had 2 days of school because we had 2 snow days in 1 week.

It is starting to get ridiculous!  Pretty, but come on.....

Snow so high there is no where left to put it.  Can't see the mailbox, can't see around the snowbanks when you are driving and can't see when you pull out in front of a police man because you can't see him coming because there is
TOO MUCH SNOW!!!

1.  being safe
2.  no accidents
3.  eventually spring will come!

I did it!

Please, when you read this, make sure you are sitting down.

I don't want any one getting hurt because of me.

I did it!~~~~

I CANCELLED our Cable TV.

Now, for those who know me well, you will know how much I love to watch TV.  So this is so HUGE for me.

The reasons for cancelling(and they are all my reasons and I don't care what anyone else does at their own house):

1.  I am tired of the garbage that is on TV.
2.  I am tired of paying the bill for the garbage that is on TV.
3. I would rather spend money on something other than the garbage that is     on TV.
4.  I want my children to find other things to do, other than watch the garbage that is on TV.
5.  I am tired of my children having the influence of the garbage on TV.

Those are the biggest reasons.

Now, I will say, we have Netflix, for Christmas we got Apple TV, so there will still be some watching of the TV in our household.  I feel that I will be able to have more control over what is watched and there are not commercials that have to be watched.

I will miss football and I may reconsider once football season comes around, but for now, there is no more cable in the Burt household.
I can't wait to see the reaction when the kids get home!

1.  no more cable bill
2.  Monday
3. sunshine

It worked

The snow dance must have worked.

Don't know we will get much more or that what we have will last long, but at the moment, there is snow on the ground and snow coming out of the sky!

I will ask the kids to demonstrate the snow dance later!

Let it Snow

This is what my front yard looks like this morning.

Yep, NO SNOW.

Here it is 5 days before Christmas and we have had a SLIGHT dusting of snow this year.

That is it.

My kids have been praying for snow, they wore their pajamas inside out and did a snow dance over the weekend, to no avail.
So far, nothing is working.

Thank goodness for snow making machines at the mountain!

It's a good thing

I LOVE to wear black.....

I have had to wear it to church again.

My team was awful yesterday
(I think it was because I went to a church meeting and missed most of the game)!

Unbelievably, they are still in the top 25.  At the #25 spot.

It is kind of hard to root for a team that seems to forget they are supposed to be playing football......not just getting beat up!!

And yes, it is true.
I do love football and during football season, I wear red to church when the Utes win and I wear black when they don't.
It is fun for me!

1.  Loving to wear 2 colors
2.  people thinking I am crazy
3.  football(win or lose)

I'll be wearing BLACK

uloss

I have worn red to church for the last 8 weeks.
Tonite, it has come to an end.
I will be wearing black.

A sad day for Utah fans.

(I really blame it on the fact that a friend of mine was there).

Not just a loss, but a BLOWOUT.

No more being ranked #5.

1.  wearing a different color to church
2.  someone has to lose
3.  an extra hour of sleep

Politics

I am generally not one who likes to get too involved in politics.
I tend to cringe when they are brought up in a conversation and I know there is going to be a debate.
I do like to be informed and have my own opinions.  I don't need to debate.

I don't expect people to think like I do.
That is one great thing about a vote.

But, living in TAXachussetts, I would have thought things would have turned out a bit differently.

On yesterdays ballot, there was a bill to reduce our state sales tax from 6.25% to 3%.  A huge reduction in my opinion.  Maybe too big.
Another thing to vote for or against was keeping a tax of 6.25% on alcohol, or getting rid of the tax.

I was blown away when I got up this morning.  Granted, I will admit to being very disappointed with election results in this state.

But what I think is the most unbelievable is the tax results of the election.

Voters in the state of TAXachussetts voted to KEEP the state sales tax at 6.25%, but GET RID OF the tax on alcohol.

To me, it is unbelievable that people love their alcohol enough that they would rather have a sales tax on everything but alcohol.  Granted we do not have sales tax on food and clothing, but everything else we buy is taxed.
Except for alcohol.

Crazy to me.

1.  voting
2.  only 2 more days of teaching seminary
3.  middle of the week!

WOW

I waited for Todd to get home from work last night before I went to vote.
Normally I go during the day, but he wanted me to wait for him this time.
I could not believe the turn out.
I have NEVER had to wait in line to vote.
We had to wait over 30 minutes.
I heard people in line saying they didn't even have to wait in line when Obama was elected!
Crazy.  Guess people want a change!!

1.  freedom to vote
2.  seeing people want to have a voice
3.  agency

It's not easy being weird

Halloween 2010 will go down in our history books for being a hard one!
With it being on Sunday, our family decided that we would not go
trick or treating and we would spend it doing things at home together as a family.
Not an easy thing for one of my children who had many friends ask said child to go trick or treating with them!!  Also, not all of our friends understand why we chose not to go(making us kind of weird).
But we endured and had a fun evening.

It is times like these when I miss being around my mom because she always does something fun for the kids, and knowing what she had in store for my nieces, I am sure she did not disappoint(lucky girls)!

The girls got invited to the local Girl Scout Halloween activity.  They had a blast.  Brynn is a Rydell High Cheerleader(from Grease) and Marissa is an Orange M&M.  It was kind of funny because the girls that asked them to go were dressed up as a Green M&M and the one that took Brynn was a Pink Lady!
Sunday night we stayed home and passed out candy to our 12 visitors!
We decorated the table and I think it turned out cute.
We had tacos with eyes(sliced olives), orange julius, brains(bean dip), and I think I even heard the above said child, who was having a hard time with Halloween being on a Sunday, say what a great day it was!!!
Thanks goodness for tender mercies!
I did tell said child that next year I will take this child and friends wherever they want to go(in the state) for as long as they want.  I may be out for a long time next year!!
Whatever it takes!!
Happy Halloween!!!

BTW, they did get to go to our ward Trunk-or-Treat, so they did get to get candy!  And the boys did dress up for the ward activity, but I did not get pictures of it.  Braden was a lacrosse player and Brandon was a Bob Marley kid of hippie.

1.  sunshine
2.  teaching moments
3.  a simple Halloween

Amazing

I have been sitting at my computer a good majority of the day today.
Entranced by what was happening in Chile.

I am amazed at what transpired today.
I can't believe that 33 miners were trapped for 69 days in a mine
a half mile underground.

I sat and watched so many of the miners arrive on the surface.
It is an amazing world we live in.
